You answer, I listen. If our rapport allows for it I may interrupt, gently, to bring you back from your mental story into the felt sense of it: the weight, the tension, the holding patterns, the place where your breath catches. I hold the whole of what you’re carrying without touching it. There is no fixed protocol, and sometimes that’s surprising to people.
My work relies on you. I can help you, teach you a few things, show you some possible options, but nothing happens unless you show up.
During the session, I will offer cues that respond to the moment. Over time, you will learn to do your version of the same thing. We are coming into a collaborative presence practice with no predefined outcome, but a shared orientation of mutual altruism and service. If there is a goal, it is healing. Health, here, is Swastha, the Sanskrit word for health. swa= my own self and stha = to be situated. Meaning: healing is the process of finding oneself situated in one’s own self.
Pain and suffering are real, and healing is possible. We are here to recover wholeness, through a combination of constancy in practice and unexpected joy.
If we are to arrive at the care we dream of, it is imperative that we dream aloud, and make space for the present feeling tone of fun and play, returning always to the body’s embedded co-emergent relations and its capacity for transcendence.
It’s all about letting the process happen and actively engaging with its dynamic unfolding. That is the whole thing. Health is the state of being present to that process, and healing is anything which facilitates that presence.
Really, this blog is a signpost, a series of words enacting a finger pointing at the moon. If we step into the work together, then we can point in the same direction.
A fool, I thought I knew what I was getting into, getting at. As the wheel turns, I hear that ever before this has been unfolding and will be still. If I let go, will the current carry me back to the ocean, or dash me upon the rocks? Will my corpse float through the forbidden abodes and curse my soul for all time? Or is it more simple than all that? could it be that when I release, what needs and wants to happen may at last concord? That is the meaning of the word, to sing in resonant harmony.
We’re learning to become the process, and to feel safe with ourselves as a complex multitude.
I’m curious about the sense of what’s true, that mad laughter of sparkling cellular respiration amidst and beyond anything material. My body is so much more than I ever thought was possible. Life is so much shorter than I could possibly conceive. I sit upon the confluence of rivers, meetings, joinings, that make this all possible. Joy is the root of it all.
My work today is the vessel I wish I had been offered. I am cultivating the capacity to remaining steady in dynamic readiness, and to share that skill with others. Allowing everything to change, for there is no use in resisting the shift tectonic, of the spheres’ music. Hope, active and alive, is all I know and all I’ve known.
